Sexually Adventurous College Course
A U.C. Berkeley course received national exposure after its
unconventional teachings were made public. Male and female students
were encouraged to take Polaroid photos of their genitals, shuffled the
pictures in a box, and later try to match the genitals with the
student. Other activities that occurred in the class were a lecture
from a porn actress, a trip to a gay strip club where their instructor
had sex onstage, and a class orgy. The class was part of the De-Cal
(Democratic Education at Cal) in which students teach their selves. The
courses are outside the general curriculum and most DeCal instructors
are themselves undergraduates. The class was canceled after the
instructor failed to appear at a meeting to discuss his conduct.
Another De-Cal course for Women's studies involved an academic exercise
that had students walking around nude in downtown Berkeley.
Other unconventional teachings include:
University of Southern California - In a “sex studies” course, porn
star Annabel Chong who was the instructor, put on a strap-on dildo and
proceeded to have sex with two other women in the class.
San Francisco Art Institute - art student Jonathan Yegge asked for a
volunteer for a live performance depicting Hegel's “master-slave
dialectic” in which the volunteer would receive an enema and Yegge oral
sex while bound and blindfolded. Later, his volunteer who actually
signed a waver, consenting to “acts of a violent and sexual nature”
complained and Yegge was placed on academic probation.
Wesleyan University - “Pornography: Writing of Prostitutes” required
students to produce their own pornography.
Nassau Community College of New York - In a Human Sexuality course,
students were encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities
which included, visiting a gay bar, interviewing prostitutes, and
urging female students to experiment urinating on a mirror or
masturbating.
Columbia University - “Gender and Deviance”
University of Chicago - “Fetishism, Gender, Sexuality, and Capitalism”
