In AD 79, Pompeii, an ancient city near Naples, Italy was buried under many feet of ash after being destroyed by a volcano. The city had remained hidden and was accidentally discovered in 1599. Excavations did not begin until 1748. Pompeii is a city that was frozen in time and allows us to see how life was in ancient Roman times. Pompeii had indoor heating, hot baths, brothels, and was a very uninhibited city.
